In today’s world of changing technology and marketing landscape, your website has become a more powerful tool for your business than ever before. Thus, you need to ensure your visitors always have a great User Experience (UX) anytime they visit your website. If you do not update your website regularly, it will feel old and outdated due to rapidly changing technology.
UX is everything to a website redesign or revamp. The beauty of your graphic design, the quality of your content and the reputation of a company matters little if a website is awkward and hard to navigate.
We have put together some great tips on how to redesign your website for better user experience (UX).
- Have a Fast Loading Website
One of the most unsatisfying experiences for users of the web is waiting too long for a page to load. With the rise of the mobile devices, people are accessing content all over the world on many different platforms. When people visit a website that take a considerable amount of time to load, they usually bounce. Slow page load is an interrupting experience for the user and it can be a source of frustration so you should always consider your page load time when redesigning your website.
- Ensure Your Website is Responsive & Mobile-Friendly
People access the internet with all kinds of devices mostly which are mobile (smartphones, tablets, iPads, etc.). It is therefore imperative that your website is mobile-friendly and easy-to-navigate no matter the screen type through which it is being accessed. Lately, Google started penalizing sites that aren’t mobile optimized, making the need for responsiveness even more crucial. This is probably the single most valuable way in which you can improve your website’s usability.
- Don’t Use Your Old Content in Your New Website
Redesigning your website for better UX also include the content. Never use the same content in your previous design on your new website. Ensure you refresh your visual, written, and video content as well as the overall design. You may need to cut out information, reword your message, and develop interesting new content that does a better job of connecting with your market. Do some research and write content your audience will consider valuable and relevant.
- Use Bullets to Organize Vital Information
Bullets help to order important pieces of information (or steps in a process) and make your content easier on the eyes. Use bullets in your content as it will enable the user to quickly get all the information they want (e.g. benefits, steps to perform an action, and key features of a product/service etc.) all in a short amount of time. This will make your propositions more attractive and will enable the user to get all the information they need.
- Make sure there are No Broken Links (404 Error Message)
Although many search engines do not punish websites severely for soft 404 errors (page not found), a user however will. When a user clicks on a link or an image they are expecting this link will take them to the next place they want to go. Encountering a 404 will make your user irritated and they will have a re-think of spending their time on your website (when they probably could go to another website for the information they seek). To boost a great UX, confirm there are no broken links on any page of your website.
