WHY MOBILE MARKETING REALLY MATTERS IN DIGITAL MARKETING

Many years ago, the word “mobile marketing” referred to advertising on-the-go, which means small billboards or posters displayed on top or on the sides of cars. These days, this definition doesn’t quite cut it. Nowadays, mobile marketing refers to ad campaigns sent through SMS, MMS or bluetooth over mobile devices such as cell phones and electronic tablets.

Mobile marketing isn’t the future – it is now. Ever since the iPhone got introduced to the  world back in 2007, smart devices have become an indispensable part of our lives. For a lot of people, the phone is the first thing they check in the morning and the last thing at night. They can’t leave the house, or even the room, without it.

Here are some reasons why we believe that Mobile Marketing is such a big deal in Digital Marketing.

MOBILE IS THE KEY TO UNLOCKING POWERFUL MARKETING OPPORTUNITIES

Mobile marketing unlocks powerful opportunities for marketers. Unlike any other engagement and communication channel, mobile channels allows marketers to reach larger audiences in a way that is real-time and personal.
A typical consumer owns at least one mobile device and they just don’t own it, they actually make use of it, checking up messages and staying connected to their friends and family through it. This is a very huge opportunity to put the right messages in the right time to this target audience.

MOBILE SITES RANK HIGHER THAN NON MOBILE SITES

In April 2015, Google updated its algorithm. The significance of this update is that mobile-optimised sites now rank higher than non-optimised sites. This event was quickly dubbed “Mobilegeddon” as businesses rushed to ensure their websites didn’t fall victim to the Google apocalypse. What the search giant did was officially acknowledge the importance of mobile in our lives – and make businesses stand up and listen. If your website doesn’t look, read and perform well on mobile devices, it will suffer in search results. It is as simple as that.

MOBILE MARKETING CHANGES THE WAY PEOPLE CONSUME DATA

Mobile changes how people consume content. With people using their mobiles to consume more content than ever, brands are racing to understand how they can use mobile to tell stories and connect with consumers. This isn’t just about making the content look good on a small, vertical screen; it’s about experimenting with flexible, portable content structures and experiences, like games.

MOBILE MARKETING REVOLUTIONIZED ECOMMERCE

This should not come as a surprise to anyone. Mobile users are shoppers and there are lots of statistics to prove it. Smart retailer are recognizing this trend and incentivizing the use of mobile phones within the store with discounts and a whole lot of other strategies.
Shopping has transitioned across devices. Where e-commerce used to be a desktop activity, people are now turning to their mobiles. According to HubSpot, mobile commerce will command 24.4% of overall e-commerce profit by the end of 2017.  There are trends that already support this survey. For instance, Instagram has launched ads with “Shop Now” buttons, Pinterest has finally revealed “Buyable Pins”, and Google recently announced that a “Buy” button will soon be available to mobile shoppers. Now it’s down to brands to capitalise on the mobile revenue stream, using mobile-specific advertising, search engine marketing and mobile-friendly web pages to get in front of shoppers when it counts.
